Preparation

  • All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry and free of any dirt, oil, and grease.

New and Uncoated Concrete or Masonry Surfaces:

  • Allow new surfaces to cure 30 days.
  • Clean and etch surface using a product such as a muriatic acid etcher (read and follow all manufacturer's label directions) to achieve a textured profile similar to 150 grit sandpaper.
  • Wipe your fingers over the clean, dry floor to check for dust or powder.
  • Ensure there is no residue on your fingers that may have been left from the etcher. If residue is found, rinse the surface to remove residue.
  • Allow the surface to dry completely.
  • Sprinkle a few drops of water onto the surface. If water is quickly absorbed and the surface feels like 150 grit sandpaper, the surface is ready. If not, re-etch.

Painted, Stained or Sealed Concrete:

  • For a painted surface in sound condition, use a product to clean and prepare the surface.
  • If the coating is failing or peeling, use a paint stripper to remove old coating or scrape/sand down to a sound concrete surface.
  • Scuff sand glossy surfaces.
  • Clean and spot etch any exposed concrete.
  • Remove all dust with a damp cloth, allow to dry.

Application

  • DO NOT THIN. Intermix all cans of the same product to ensure colour uniformity.
  • Stir before and occasionally during application.
  • Use product when air and surface temperatures are between 10-32° C.
  • Apply to dry concrete. Do not apply if rain or heavy dew is expected within 24 hours.
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight.
  • Tape off any adjacent areas and apply to the edges using a nylon/polyester brush.
  • For hairline cracks up to 2 mm, completely fill in with coating using a brush and allow to dry completely prior to roller application.
  • Apply an even first coat using a 3 mm adhesive roller cover or nylon/polyester brush.
  • NOTE: The first coat will act as the base coat and it will not completely cover the surface by design. Avoid over application on the first coat.
  • Apply from a roller tray or pour directly from the container
  • NOTE: Pouring can help spread the coating quickly however it may reduce the overall spread rate.
  • Work in areas approximately 1 m x 1 m.
  • Pour a circular (pancake style) shape with a 25 cm diameter of the working area.
  • Spread from the center outwards, rolling in multiple directions to evenly distribute.
  • For long, narrow areas, pour a strip about 8-12 cm across the surface.
  • Apply moderate pressure to the roller to push the coating outwards and even out the surface.
  • Work quickly and overlap the previously coated areas to ensure full coverage.
  • Avoid regular patterns and knock down hard edges using the roller.
  • Allow first coat to dry then apply second coat in the same method as the first coat.
  • While two coats are necessary, additional coats may help hide previous surface imperfections or cover over contrasting colours.
  • For large projects, consider using a texture sprayer with a 4 mm tip.
  • Spray in 1.2 m x 1.2 m sections and back roll with 3 mm adhesive roller cover.

Touch-Ups:

  • An annual touch-up may be required in areas subject to automotive tires or heavy traffic.
  • Clean touch-up area with power washer or scrub brush.
  • For small touch-up areas, use a nylon/polyester brush.
  • For larger touch-up areas, use 6mm adhesive roller cover.
  • Feather out product in multiple directions, slightly overlapping previous coating.
  • Allow to completely dry and repeat steps as needed.
  • NOTE: Once dry, touch-up area will likely have higher sheen.

Dry Time

  • Longer dry time required in cooler temperatures and in higher humidity.
  • The floor may be subjected to light foot traffic after 24 hours.
  • Allow 72 hours before subjecting surface to automotive tires, heavy foot traffic or repositioning furniture.
  • Premature heavy traffic will cause paint failure requiring spot recoating.
  • Wait at least 30 days before rinsing or cleaning. Use a mild detergent as needed.
  • Abrasive cleaners and pressure-washers should be used carefully to avoid premature coating failure.
