How to Sand Cabinets

There are a couple of different ways to sand, but for smaller jobs like a cabinet, it is better to use a block sander for more control. 

For Best Results:

Take your time sanding to achieve an even surface and remove any previous top coating. This will help the paint adhere to the surface, giving you a smooth finish. 

Suggested Tools & Supplies
  • Sandpaper (150-220 Grit)

  • Sanding Block

  • Step 1

    Grab a sanding block.

  • Step 2

    Wipe down area with a damp towel.

  • Step 3

    Using a block sander, sand in a back and forth motion, moving with the grain of the wood until you have covered the entire surface.

  • Step 4

    Wipe off excess dust.
