How to Patch a Wall

Now is the time to repair any wall damage before you paint. Ensure the beauty of your freshly painted walls by repairing any small holes or cracks.

Suggested Tools & Supplies
  • Putty Knife

  • Patching Material (Spackle)

  • Sandpaper (100, 220 Grit)
  • Step 1

    Grab your tools.

  • Step 2

    Find areas on your wall with holes or small cracks that need to be patched to create a uniform surface.

  • Step 3

    Using the putty knife scrape off any excess dry wall around the holes.

  • Step 4

    Grabbing a small amount of spackle with your putty knife, cover the hole by gently pressing the putty knife against the wall to fill the hole.

  • Step 5

    Wait a couple of hours until the spackle is dry to the touch.

  • Step 6

    Grab your sandpaper and gently sand to remove any bumps to smooth out the dry spackle.

  • Step 7

    With a rag, wipe down the wall to remove any excess dust.
