How to Apply BEHR PREMIUM® Cabinet & Trim Enamel

For Best Results:

If you are painting a cabinet that was previously painted with a glossy paint, thoroughly scuff-sand or degloss the surface for proper adhesion. Maintain your painted cabinets and safely wipe away dirt and common household stains with BEHR SWIPES™ Interior Wall Wipes.

  • BEHR® 437 Primer

  • Paint Brush

  • Stir Stick

  • Paint Tray

  • Paint Tray Liner

  • Roller Cover and Frame

  • Cloth

  • Sanding Block

  • Painter's Tape

  • Screwdriver

  • Step 1

    Grab your tools.

  • Step 2

    Remove cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware with a screwdriver.

  • Step 3

    Sand the surface and wipe down with a lint-free cloth to remove dust.

  • Step 4

    Tape off areas you don’t want painted.

  • Step 5

    Apply primer to the back of the cabinet doors. Once dry, prime the front and the body.

  • Step 6

    Lightly scuff-sand the primed surface and wipe down with a lint-free cloth to remove dust.

  • Step 7

    Apply paint with a brush, roller, or sprayer to the cabinet doors and body.

  • Step 8

    Lightly scuff-sand between coats.

  • Step 9

    Apply a second coat of paint.

  • Step 10

    Remove the tape while paint is tacky. Reattach hardware and doors once dry.
