How-To Paint Wainscoting Detail with Geometric Blocking

Step 1: Plan

Pick a corner in your home to add detail using wainscoting. Start with a clean white wall. We rolled on BEHR® Interior Paint in Painter’s White PPU18-08.

Step 2: Create Wainscoting

Cut moulding to size. Adhere top chair rail board to wall 91 cm (36") inches from floor. Add trim sections to create a traditional design.

Step 3: Caulk and Paint

Before painting, caulk all seams. Use your wall colour to paint the wainscoting. For best results apply two coats of paint. Allow paint to dry between coats.

Step 4: Tape

Use painter’s tape to create a geometric triangular design on the wall.

Step 5: Paint Accent

Choose a contrasting colour to paint within the shape of the tape. We chose BEHR® Interior Paint in Charismatic PPU6-14.

Step 6: Add Details and Enjoy!

Add lighting, artwork and decorative items for personality and style to the finished space.
