How to Prep New Wood

It's important to clean new wood surfaces as this will protect the wood from mildew stains and remove mill glaze. The cleaning process will also open the pores of the wood in order to allow for better penetration of stains and finishes.

For Best Results:

Use BEHR PREMIUM® All-in-One Wood Cleaner to prepare the uncoated surface, and allow for full penetration of stains and finishes.

Once the surface has completely dried, coat with a BEHR Stain or Finish product.

  1. Step 1

To apply BEHR PREMIUM® All-in-One Wood Cleaner, first wet the wood surface.

  2. Step 2

Apply the product with a pump sprayer, then wait 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Scrub the wet surface with a stiff bristle brush, then rinse the wood surface thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Once the surface has completely dried, you're ready to coat with a BEHR stain or finish product.
