How to Apply BEHR PREMIUM® 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint

A high-performance, ready-to-use, water-based epoxy floor paint that resists hot tire pick-up and marring.

For Best Results:

Before you apply the coating to any concrete surface, it is essential to have a properly cleaned and prepped surface.

For new or uncoated surfaces, refer to: Preparation of Uncoated Concrete for Paints & Stains

For previously coated or weathered surfaces, refer to: Preparation of Coated Concrete for Paints & Stains

How to Coat a Garage Floor

  1. Step 1

Once the surface is cleaned, prepped and primed, apply the epoxy floor paint. Make sure to stir the paint before applying. Apply a thin, even layer using a 3/8" (9.5 mm) nap roller cover, a pad applicator or a nylon-polyester brush.

  2. Step 2

Cut-in using a brush to coat the perimeter of the surface area that is next to the wall.

  3. Step 3

Apply the stain, using long even strokes.  Apply in one direction to avoid lap lines. Apply the stain when air and surface temperatures are between 50-90 degrees F (10 - 32 degrees C). Since concrete varies in texture and porosity, 2 coats may be required for uniform appearance.

  4. Step 4

Allow the first coat to dry for at least 4-6 hours before re-coating, if necessary. Apply the second coat in a criss-cross direction for uniformity of appearance. Do not apply more than 2 coats.

  5. Step 5

The surface must be fully cured before use.

Allow 24 hours for light foot traffic.
Allow 72 hours for heavy foot traffic and furniture.
Allow 7 days before subjecting to automotive tires.
Allow 30 days before rinsing or cleaning with a mild detergent.
